Splash of molten steel during smelting leads to adhesion of solidified slag, viscous hot slag and cold steel accretions on the furnace door. The accumulated slag can reach a maximum thickness of 600 mm, blocking the furnace door, carbon lance insertion port, temperature measurement & sampling port and tapping runner. Consequently, the furnace door fails to close properly and slag discharging is impeded.
The hydraulic breaking shovel of the machine can finish slag cleaning within 2–3 minutes, while manual slag removal takes 15–20 minutes. It directly shortens the smelting cycle per heat, enables online hot slag cleaning without furnace shutdown or cooling holding, and improves the operation rate of the electric arc furnace.
The furnace door area maintains an ultra-high temperature above 1700°C permanently. Traditional slag removal relies on manual oxygen lance slag blowing and crowbar slag raking, which poses high risks of high-temperature scalding, burial by collapsed slag and burns from splashing molten steel.
This machine supports cab operation and wireless remote control, keeping operators far away from high-temperature hazardous zones. It sharply cuts severe injury and scald accidents in steelmaking workshops. The workforce required for one operation is reduced from 3–4 workers to only 1 operator.
Extrusion from massive hardened slag will damage the furnace door sealing, deform the furnace door frame and abrade the furnace wall refractory bricks. Timely slag cleaning avoids compressive damage to refractory materials, extending the service life of furnace lining by over 30%. The power consumption of electric arc per heat drops by 8%–12%. The frequency of refractory brick replacement and furnace door overhaul is reduced, lowering spare parts expenditure for steel mills.
It cleans crusty slag adhered around the EBT tapping hole and furnace door slag runner, dredges the tapping launder and slag runner, stabilizes the slag-free tapping process, reduces defects such as slag reversion and slag entrapment in molten steel, and upgrades the quality of finished steel products. Meanwhile, it removes accumulated slag on the edge of the EBT tapping hole to guarantee smooth opening and closing of the tapping hole.
